The annual national qualification examination for tour guides falls in November. The exact date of the exams will be announced the year the exam is being held.
Application starts in May, any Chinese resident who graduated middle school or have the equivalent educational background is eligible to sit the exams.
To apply fill in the application form issued by the local test center and submit it with identification confirmed, either by the seal of your employer or the subdistrict office to which your home belongs, and a healthy blood test report from a local hospital.
An application fee and two 1-inch photos are also required.

It's a qualification certificate issued by the state educational authority, to ensure quality of education and registration.To obtain the teaching qualification certificate, you need to have: Citizenship of People's Republic of China, High moral standard, Solid educational background,
Sound ability and technique in teachingLevels of the teaching qualification are kindergarten, primary, junior middle school, high school, vocational school, vocational school and teacher in institute of higher learning. Requirements of obtaining the certificate differ in accordance with the level.
Teachers already at job may apply for the teaching qualification certificate through the school they currently work with.
To date, the certificate is not open to those not being teacher at present but wish to apply for the qualification. But the procedure concerned will be ready soon to absorb more talents into the educational field.
The Education Staff Communication Center, under the supervision of Shanghai Educational Committee, is in charge of the qualification issue.

Visas for leisure travel to China are quite easy to get, usually granted for a one month's stay. You can contact China National Tourist Office in New York or Los Angeles. Your travel agent or visa services can also help you, or it can also be obtained from Chinese embassies or consulates. In the North America, you can contact Chinese Embassies in Washington DC and Ottawa, or the Consulates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Chicago, Houston, New York, Vancouver, Toronto.
US citizens can stay in Hong Kong without a visa for up to 30 days. For other passport holders, please inquire with your nearest PRC embassies or consulates.
A tourist visa requires an application form, a passport-size photo and a fee depending on visa types. It takes about seven business days for an application to be processed. For Tibet, the Chinese Embassy must get approval from the Tibet Tourism Administration before issuing a visa.
